https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Hordern He began his naval gunnery training on board City of Florence, a defensively equipped merchant ship (DEMS) which delivered ammunition to the city of Alexandria for the Mediterranean Fleet.[42][48] He found that although his middle class upbringing hindered his ability to make friends on board the ship, it helped with his commanding officers.[49][50] By 1941 radar was slowly being introduced to the Navy and Hordern was appointed as one of the first operatives who communicated enemy movements to the RAF. He later said the post was owed to his clear diction and deep vocal range.[50] His commentary impressed his superior officers so much that by early 1942 he had been given the job as a Fighter Direction Officer and then first lieutenant on board HMS Illustrious.[n 9][52] Shortly after the departure of his superior, he was promoted to lieutenant commander, a rank which he held for two years. Alongside his naval responsibilities, he was also appointed as the ship's entertainment officer and was responsible for organising shows featuring members of the crew.[53 Later Frankie Howerds Roman Master in "Up Pompeii" Last edited by Sparkie2182; 26th September 2022 at 13:45. |

"Whisky" without the "E" comes from Scotland. Don't want the lads across the water getting upset! Roy.

#545 - Admiral Karl Dönitz and his BdU staff had moved his HQ to Paris is September, 1940. It was then moved to Lorient in November and into a requisitioned house at Kernevel, facing the Keroman bunkers. After the commando raid at Saint-Nazaire in 1942 the location was believed to be too exposed and it was moved to Paris in March 1942. Today the mansion is used by the Commanding French Admiral of the harbour Lorient.
