- It was in October 1962 that I began my great adventure with the Merchant Navy, joining Ben Line Steamers. I sailed on 8 Ben Line vessels my favourite being Benrinnes on which I completed 9 voyages progressing from 8th to 3rd engineer. Stayed with the company until February 1969 when my time on the high seas came to an end and I joined the Police service.
