About Me
- About Graham the pipe Smith
- Biography
- Signed the parchment 09.09.1957 for a 3 years 10 and a half month's apprenticeship with Elder Dempster Lines of Liverpool, a company I was advised 'would make a man and a seaman of me', both at the same time.
They, or I, or both of 'us' must have done something right because sat the tickets ~ can't remember the precise order or 'dates', as don't have R681193 to hand at the time of writing ~ Lifeboat, First Aid, EDH, Radar, Second Mate's, Mate's and finally Master's in '67.
I enjoyed my ten years 'before, after and up' the mast, then a 'little lady' who I'd met whilst ashore for Master's said "The sea or me". Golden anniversary 13.07 next year. Need I say more, other than I feel far too young to be a great grandfather even though I am?
We all had many BOTAs but similarly did make lifetime friends. I'm a very lucky man in that respect as 'one of those', a certain Captain John Woodend, gave me the name of this site. Permission to come aboard requested. - Location
- Caterham, 'Sunny Surrey', UK
