- Qualified with MRGC and DoT Radar certificates from Brunel Tech (Bristol) in 1979. After a short spell working as a technician at the BBC Monitoring Service at Caversham Park, worked as an R/O at GKA from 1980 until 2000. Also had responsibility for customer service work at the station, and transferred to BT Satellite Services until BT sold the Aero & Maritime business to Stratos in 2001.
Joined the UK Hydrographic Office in 2002 as Radio Signals Editor for the ALRS publications, becoming section manager/senior editor in 2011. Secretary of the IMO NAVTEX Coordinating Panel from 2013, and becoming Chair in 2018, attending numerous IMO/IHO conferences worldwide.
Took retirement in 2020, now writing books and magazine articles about the maritime radio service. My book about the history of Portishead Radio/GKA was published in 2020 and has sold over 1,000 copies worldwide. - Location
