- Born in Kingston on Thames England Primarily educated in Bedfordshire then aboard HMS Worcester at Greenhithe pre - sea training. Joined BP Tankers as Navigating Apprentice in October 1959 went through the ranks to Mate with them. Did 6 months Aggregate dredging on South Coast then left for New Zealand and Union SS Co in March 1974. Did some RoRo time before shifting mostly onto NZ Coastal Tankers managed by Union SS Co. Left Union SS Co as Mate in Oct 1988 and owned a Yacht Chandlery for 8 years before becoming Harbour Master/ Port Manager of Westport NZ. After 10 years I retired.
