I say E-S, you do know your place don't you Old Chap?

I already have a coronory (made by ospreys on the strand). I only wear it with the vermin as it is not that comfortable and doesn't go with the covid-19 hairstyle.

As it turned out no letter of complaint was required. A certain lack of 'con gusto' sans promenaders I thought.

As the Good Book says;

He that humbles himself shall be humbled and he thateth* exalts himself shall be exalted.

* Translated from the Hebrew, (roughly).

YM-Mundrabilla 17th September 2020 10:07

Oh exalted ones.
Are we adrift, aground, at anchor, awaiting orders and/or contraband, in quarantine or still picking up (hopefully female), survivors?
Becalmed is not an option.

Farmer John 17th September 2020 10:11

"If a straight line intersects two other straight lines, and so makes the two interior angles on one side of it together less than two right angles, then the other straight lines will meet at a point if extended far enough on the side on which the angles are less than two right angles."

The Good Book sayeth this also, but it is a matter of faith and doesn't help much in Navigation.

Don't forget, you ARE the captain. All eyes are turned to you, all hands wait your every whim. Well, not that one.

YM-Mundrabilla 17th September 2020 10:30

ES speaks of the humble and the exalted a post or two ago.
I don't know what he means because he sometimes speaks in tongues especially when the boiler pressure drops to 100 psi but thought it might be relevant.
To be on the safe side, however, despite your kind offer of a job with the truly exalted who are nearer their God than me I think that I might be safer down here by letting you drive.
Those sexy things that you wave about up there are a mystery to me.
Stay safe all of you.

Varley 17th September 2020 11:10

I thinketh thou hast the non-drive end connecteth to the bit what needeth driving. HLM's Authorised fairy tale has it:

For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted

(probably from the Aramaic)

Otherwise translated for the top plates:

He that doeth a mighty blow job on his own trumpet may detacheth its bell end; and he who fingers his instrument piano will be heard forte leagues distant.

How FJ can say HLM's Authorised fairy tale offers no navigational guidance is beyond me. Especially as its navigational consultants seem to have attended the same 'special measures' academy as his good self, even if a testament or two apart. But, then. I have always said one should stick to the bar tot (special is not always better).

Tmac1720 17th September 2020 11:20

I have a good book also "meachanamics for dummies" very informative and I have almost completed colouring it in.:quill:

Not one for biblical texts or quotes except for the Holy Trinity know forever by injuneers as Big G, Spooky and the late JC. OK I know I will burn in hell but at least it will be warm like the injun room.

Varley 17th September 2020 11:59

I think we will be quite comfortable. Good engineers & leckies will obviously go to the other non-existent place, our lot could not keep a fire in or a genny running for long enough to make it uncomfortable. Dark, yes. Hot, no. (I just hope those blighters with pointy forks don't have night vision).

billyboy 23rd September 2020 04:17

anyone know where we are? been busy catching up with paper work.

Varley 23rd September 2020 10:44

Well, I am presently in my workshop about to go for smokoe with luncheon pre and post prandial not far behind. If you can let someone know the number written on the go-roundy'n'clickety bit of your telephone we'll send a plastico to find you. I hope your medication is doing you good but, for heaven's sake, there's only four other cabins on your deck and getting lost there is something of an achievement.

Malcolm G 23rd September 2020 10:49

Well I'm just aimlessly wandering around, as usual. As opposed to sitting in a corner with my half pint of Drambuie shandy.
Who is that behind the curtain on the bridge? I don't want to interrupt, not my business, just interested.

Varley 23rd September 2020 11:32

Good heavens, are we on charter to the MOD, Sir William's medication does have a lot to answer for. It's not only the wimin we'll have to shift but they'll not like what goes on in the plasticos' alleyway either.

Remember, there are some things one sees and some things one does not see so don't peek.
It could be although I didn't think that we had any. We don't have any, do we? Or are those of us downstairs, working like dogs just so that our superiors upstairs can have a hot bubble bath, being kept in the dark again?

Drambuie shandy! Can I have the unpolluted Drambuie that is left over?

Are we there yet?

Stay safe, all of you.

Varley 23rd September 2020 12:01

You get the man wrong. A shandy in Drambuie's native gaelic means 'full glass of'. Not to be confused with the 'that's'handy' when finding the deck carpeted when his gyro finally topples.

(Still safe wish you all the same).

Tmac1720 23rd September 2020 12:06

As its dark down in the depths of the injun room and we don't have any windies (Norn Iron for window) we never have any feckin' idea where we are and leave such navigational matters to the deckie crowd. Not that they have any idea where we are either but they have windies :smoking:

I learn something new every day. Whether it is of practical use or whether I remember it remains to be seen.
Here in the Colony of Oz, which is frantically fragmenting into individual states at the moment due to Covid, a shandy is a mixture of whatever and lemonade or some such.
I don't touch the stuff, of course, which undoubtedly explains both my iggerance of such matters and the fact that I still have four litres of duty free Drambuie 'in stock'.

Quite, quite true.. Drinks should normally be mixed after imbibing not in the glass.
When on the wagon the use of some lemon infused beverage can accompany the hairy dog.
Under normal circumstances a wee chaser of Barley wine is always acceptable.

Btw - is it safe to come out from under this table yet?

We all know the deck ornaments have windies but they are not windies for looking through, they are windies to allow the crew earn overtime when washing them on a Sunday.
Professional, and we are professionals, professional navigation is carried out on the Ecdis, an atlas with a socket, USB port and a mouse. Try to keep up with technology, like a good boy.

Varley 23rd September 2020 14:28

I was in the Second's cabin having beer on Stonehaven when overhearing the following call from Mike in the engine room:

Ring ring.
...............
"Yes, Mike"
..............
"What lights, Mike"?
.........................
"What wee windies. Mike"?
.........................

At this point the lights went out. The windies in question were those that allowed one to see into the alternator of the turbo generator. The illumination in question was that provided by the arcing accompanying the vapourisation of its copperwork.

Technology is it? bah humbug.... If I can't fix it with a good wallop from my 7llb shifter then it is of no feckin' use or interest to me.

I have observed Varley on many occasions engrossed in his spitzen und sparken gubbins. Suffice to say I tend to leave him to it, he seems happy enough especially when his eyes light up :chuckle:

Malcolm G 23rd September 2020 18:34

I am reminded of one of those imponderables..
Why is it that metallic vapour deposition never seems to be the same colour as the metal from which you supposed it to originate?

(that being the material on the inside of the little winnder)

Engine Serang 23rd September 2020 18:54

I'm sure you and Mike, when the pain in his ar$e subsided, talked knowledgably about the latent heat of vapourisation. Mike probably left and joined Kuwait Shipping where he could do little damage.

Malcolm G 23rd September 2020 19:00

That would be an instruction to go forth and multiply, would it?

Varley 24th September 2020 00:17

An ever present mystery. Why is what comes out only one colour when what goes in has a much wider spectrum.

I am not built in the Scandinavian (NEBB) style. Don't press my button until you see one bright as well as two eyes dark.

(Mike was soon Second and a popular one too, unlike the T/A)
