I worked on the Cunard cargo ships taking regular cargoes of scotch from Glasgow to the US East Coast, in the days just before specialised container ship sterted. On one voyage, with containers stowed in the Tween decks, there was one which was found to be empty upon unloading in New York despite it being sealed and stowed with the doors blocked off by other containers. On another trip, a full container went missing from the Pier and I don't think it was ever found.

Some brands of Scotch whisky are still very hard to find in the UK. Now I know where they all disappeared!
