H&W Belfast

P&O Aurora and Cunard Queen Victoria will shortly be entering the Belfast shipyard for refurbishment, all told they will spend 33 days there. It’s a first for Cunard to visit H&W

Well, they have a big hole in the ground. Hope they have the management and workforce in place to tackle on such demanding jobs

They have to into the Building Dock as opposed to the Belfast Dry Dock methinks. This needs very good planing which, God forbid, (sarcasm) might actually involve the Pilots who actually know what they are doing!
The gate to the building dock is a barge like structure of 91 metres in length and 6.6 metres in depth so requires three small tugs to manoeuvre it into place.
The Dock Sill is only 4.9 metres above datum so ships have to come in on the rising tide with the gate being shut behind them, you really only get one go so weather and tide height have to be on your side!
Most of the work will be done by sub contractors.

I know a man, of this parish, who is now frantically searching the attic for his Bowler Hat.

Sadly there is no need of us old farts who know what they are doing, those days are long gone now, mores the pity nowadays we have Project Managers, Workflow Coordinators, Task Evaluators and God help us Maximum Time Facilitator's whatever the hell that is Makes you wonder how we managed to build all the ships we did without all that crap.

Oops! I've made a boo boo! Apparently Belfast Dry Dock can accomodate the Queen Victoria, apologies for the misleading information.
I really shouldn't have given my wee book of Pilot's secrets to my successor.
