Days of old. Another life......

An experiment.

I am attempting to post two photos together in the gallery but I have been unable to do so this far.

I will see how/if this test turns out?

We call that a packed lunch. I'm missing the curry course
As my old shipmate Kromeski used to say, Good Scran Today.

Thanks for posting, that menu is a classic from the mid-70s, how was the Tournedos Rossini?
Cheers
John

Two problems John:
  1. I only produced the printed menu - I didn't get to go to the gig (naturally).
  2. Whatever I did to produce the attachment to the original post where I tried to combine two pages into one attachment appears to have been successful. Only problem is that I now have no recollection as to how I did it.
Regards
Geoff

One can have fun with ‘interpreting’ these menus;
Tournedos Rossini - Steak on toast with a lump of pate and some gravy.

I remember a meat product stocked in the freezer section of the supermarkets in the USA. The picture on the box made the contents look very appetizing, but those contents were basically ground hamburger meat formed into a different shape and renamed "Salisbury Steak".

In this day and age nothing is quite what one is led to believe whether it be the picture on the box or politics.

In Texaco we were served a burger without any bun. It was served with chips, peas and gravy and called a Vienna Steak.
I wish I had one in front of me this lunchtime.

There used to be a large chain of roadside hotels with restaurants in the USA called Howard Johnsons. Around the North Eastern area of their empire one of the items on the menu was the "California Burger". It was a very large burger in a large bun with sesame seeds, a lot of lettuce and tomato salad, and large portion of "fries." When I was in Florida a year later, we found a "HoJo's" not far from the boatyard we were in. The "California Burger" wasn't featured on their menu, but something that looked suspiciously like it was there called the "Sunshine Burger", or something like that. Definitely no reference to the State of California. However, Florida did promote itself as the "Sunshine State" in those days. Interstate rivalry between the Atlantic and Pacific Coast? I never got an answer.

When joining Barber Blue Sea vessels in Newark (Port Elizabeth), we were put up in a Howard Johnson. A strange place that had a notice in the room to use the security chain at all times and NEVER open the door if they knocked. A bit off-putting! When inspecting a bulker in Baranquilla, I stayed at the Howard Johnson. It was very good. The room opened up onto a roof terrace.

Just like accommodation I stayed in in Luton, Dave except there wasn't any notice. I had to drag a huge old TV set over to block the door. Strangers in the night, dah dah...

Luton and Newark NJ. Both terrific towns to be coming from. Not necessarily great towns to go to.......

I had to return a rental car to Luton. I could never find a gas station. I remember one long street where cars were in various stages of "repair" and many of the parts, even engines, doors, etcetera, just lying around in the street. From the dress code, I thought I was in Kabul. A very strange place. I didn't particularly want to ask for directions, so I just took the car back and took the hit for filling the tank.

That's what I thought, Dave! I had the feeling that I was under surveillance all the time I was there and couldn't wait to get out of there. Phew!
