Skinning Out

Hi Phil
Just bought your book from Amazon (Canada) for $7.35 and started to read it.
Will be able to get some time with it as a major snowstorm is forecast and traffic is advised to stay home.
Hope the sales are good though I don't suppose the royalties will make you rich.

Thanks for your support, it is much appreciated. No, royalties definitely won't make me rich but if they cover some of the cost of publishing, I will be happy. So will the wife!!
Sorry to hear about the brewing storm and hope you keep safe. Great opportunity to hunker down with a book!!
Can you please let me know what you thought of the book when finished. Good or bad comments accepted positively.
I've had good feedback from ex-seamen, but some non-seafaring folk have found it a bit of a challenge, including my sisters.
Enjoy the read.
Regards Phil

One year ago today since my book was first published on Amazon.
Time has flown by.

I've just read on Google that the AVERAGE sale for self-published books is just 125 copies.
My book has done far better than that but still not covered my publishing costs by a fair margin.
I'm astounded that the average is only 125 copies so there must be an awfully large number of self-published books that bomb.

Hello, Phil. The figures for my first book of sea memoir, 'The Best of Days', are 2184 copies since 2010. Two later titles: 'You'll See Wonders" and "When Are You Going Back" bring the total up to 4231 copies. They seem to go out from Amazon at the rate of 2 or 3 per day.
Not as brisk as J K Rowling, but in view of our much smaller readership, maybe decent enough. I enjoy it, so I'm writing another . . .

Hi Harry, that's good going with your book sales. I am just over 1000 sales in 16 months but as you say it's a limited market and getting smaller all the time.

Marketers have said: once you publish one, you should publish another --- and another. They support each other. I've several titles self-published and see patterns that justify this statement.
Of course, the books have to be written. Unless the writing is enjoyed, there's no point in trying to be a Hemingway.

For our sort of books, and at our age, it's about more than profit.

I don't have another book in me Harry. I definitely didn't do it for the money but would love to cover my costs, if only to get the wife off my back!!
Someone said to me that I must have a remarkable memory to be able to remember so much from so long ago to be able to write a book about my time at sea!!
Well, I don't have a great memory, but I'll never forget that time of my life and can recall every voyage, the faces, names and the crazy things we got up to.
Most amazing times ever and would love to do it all again!!
