Winter

Looking out of the window I can see big lazy goosefeathers of snow. In half an hour my car has disappeared. Yesterday the view over to the North York Moors was leaden, the rain had big lumps and the wind was from the NNE and as cold as you like. I walked all round the farm and was glad to get back to a bowl of soup. My instincts tell me, Winter is here.

The pleasure of the West Country - for the moment at least. Today Thursday we have sunshine and light winds. Cold but around 5-6C. Bet it wont last though!

The Met Office classify the seasons as: Spring: March, April and May. Summer: June, July and August. Autumn: September, October and November. Winter: December, January and February.

By that reasoning Winters starts tomorrow (December 1st.)

They do this in the main for statistical reasons rather than the old way of thinking Winter starts on the Winter Solstice (usually around December 22nd.) Likewise Summer used to start on the Summer Solstice (usually around June 21st.)

Of course nobody has told the weather about this, so it just does what it does.

I will have the joy of a Scottish winter in two weeks time.

I do not mind the cold and indeed enjoy being in the mountains where ir actually snows.

The thought of wind, rain, cold and darkness in Sconny Botlnad for three weeks however fills me with dread!

McC (enjoying sitting outside in a T-shirt in KL!)

That is proper snow!
Here in the middle of the English south coast it need to be like that everywhere else before we even see a few flakes - and then everything grinds to a halt.

Sometimes I dream briefly about the seasons; cold rain, snow, ice and fog would be a nice change. In common with McCloggie I don't mind the cold, when I can get it.
When the temperature is low, one can always put on more clothes; when it is high one can take everything off and get sunburnt, or keep a modicum of respectability and suffer.

If you fancy a wintertime swap, it's about -2c (but sunny) here in NE Scotland
The snow stopped overnight.

I will be there in a couple of weeks DMcG!

Will be near Nairn over Christmas where the weather always seems to be a bit better - but I need to drive there from Fife so I hope the A9 is OK.

On Sunday we'll have a 'Perigee Super Moon' as the full moon occurs when the Moon is at it's closest point to Earth.

Something to Moon over .... (weather permitting.)

I think I'd agree that mooning the Moon at full Moon during a Super Moon in bright moonlight probably isn't something to moon over.
