It is surreal. Sort of like Rip Van Winkle waking up in the middle of Blade Runner or that "monkey" one with Bruce Willis. Trump, TRUMP, COVID infected and dead (official/real). While a pandemic could be contemplated, who would ever have imagined the coup d'etat light in the "most powerful nation in the world"! Peru - lovely country and people - four presidents in a week, etc. etc. etc. The list goes on.

"Death smiles at us all. All a man can do, is smile back."

Is Marcus Aurelius any relation of Marcus Rashford?

I think the best way to avoid the current chaos is to pretend that you are still sleeping.

Beware the quotations of Marcus Aurelius. They rival Churchill's in number but, like many of that great man's, were never his. Bob's one does appear in Meditation attributed to the good General.
"A collision at sea can ruin one's entire day". Not Thucydides. A great man would not be so optimistic.

You have to be careful with those Greeks, not quite as clever as they would have you believe.
Aristarchus proposed that the planets orbited the Sun long before Copernicus but he was ignored in favour of Aristotelian excreted brown matter for more than a millennia. Hippasus declared the existence of 'irrational numbers,' (think of them as a number that you can't actually write down other than using a symbol) and for his efforts the Pythagoreans threw him over the side of the ship. Or so they say. They should have stuck to building wooden horses and somehow getting the blame for introducing nasties inside your firewall stuck with the victims.

A collision at sea causes the Second to write "Bump" in the Bell Book.

A jolt on coming alongside side prompted chiefy to instruct me to write 'bump felt' as he walked past me and touched my hip. I wrote 'bum felt' in the movement book. What do you want to do ?
