Another question, cueball, if you'll be so kind.

As you know, I'm writing an novel for young Adults, and I'm unsure of the right term in this sentence:

"Her superstructure was curved and her funnel set slightly back of midship."

Should it be "midships", that is, with an "s"?

Sorry to get in so late on this one, but I think the normally accepted version should be "slightly aft of amidships". Aft denotes anything that would be considered "behind" (Not behind as in hidden behind) something else on the ship" by a landlubber. "Astern" is usually only used for something that is behind the whole ship, as in another vessel, island, etc. Hope this helps.
