Vanguard's eight 15"guns had been fitted in several different ships - only one had been in one of the so-called "large light cruisers" Courageous and Glorious. According to the gun registers, they had been fitted in Queen Elizabeth (2), Ramillies (2), Royal Sovereign (1), Resolution (1), Erebus (1) and Warspite (1) (the one from Warspite is the only one which had previously been fitted in one of the Courageous class).


The two turrets had beeen removed from Courageous and Glorious when the ships were converted, and they, and the eight guns, were kept as spares for any of the RN's 15" gun fitted ships. Glorious' turrets became Vanguard's "A" and "B" turret, Courageous' became her "X" and "Y".
