EXCUSE MOI !!!!!! peasants... the GD does NOT leak steam from any orifice, all waste steam is recirculated via the Harland and Bluff horizontal steam trap wot I fitted after liberating it from the injun works together with a crate of assorted spares, thimmigygubs, watchamacallits, and hoojahs.

Further for you ignorant non injuneering types like wot you are it is NOT an A2 it is a Pacific class 4-6-2... so there !!!! Sir Billy is mistaken in his identification due to his wearing beer goggles while at the controls.

Very nice inside with all this super-heated steam in the system. For us deckies, there's always hot cocoa infused with 151 proof Lambs Navy -- fair warms the cobbles of you heart, it does.

Very soon doing the Kattegat - Skagerak thing. Oh! You mean we've still got that Polish pilot aboard ---- he doesn't want to leave? Best put him to work perfecting Vodka cocktails in the Pax lounge.

Have we left Poland yet? Why would the Polish Pilot not want to leave us and are we sure he isn't a spy checking out our mysterious cargo? Hmmmm!
Pardon my paranoia.

The Polish pilot has agreed to call at my home and do some necessary jobs round the place, so he is hanging onboard till we call in the UK. Nice bloke and very competent, but knows nowt about maritime machinery, so he should be welcomed.

Ahh, Mr Bulleid's famous "mixed traffic" engines designed and built during wartime. My favourite class of engine since going on holiday to Bournemouth behind one of the rebuilt ones in 1960. Mr O.V.Bulleid worked for Sir Nigel Gresley in Doncaster before taking over the helm at Brighton, and took some elements of Gresley's designs and use them in his own innovative machines. The sound of a Merchant Navy or the smaller West Country/Battle of Britain engines at full chat is like no other steam locomotive on Earth.

For sheer power and drama, the Union Pacific "Big Boy" class are pretty astounding, too.

It isn't people picking on me, it is more 'stranger danger', but thank you for your concern Tmac. I will show you my appreciation one day.

Dartskipper, can you transfer some of that weather here? It's skinny cold in the Kattegat (wherever that is).

Red-17, stranger danger should not worry you, we are the strangest you are likely to meet and we look after our crew. With occasional lapses of a very minor nature, just to make sure we don't get complacent.

FJ, I think that photo was taken on the only day the sun shone on Brixham that year! Most times, the sunshine came down on us in liquid form. If the sun was shining, it was usually on the other side of the bay, but by the time we got there, it was raining.

That's why the publicity department invented the slogan, "Sunny South Devon." Amazing what a bit of trickery in the dark room could do before the invention of digital cameras and photoshop.

TANNOY: Varley, if you are still aboard, and feeling well enough, I think it would be appropriate seeing as we will be heading down the North Sea into the English Channel that you rig up a 50,000 watt a.m. transmitter to relive the good old days of the "pirate" stations on the Maunsell Forts, etc. I can contribute a few 45's of Bill Haley (Rock Around the Clock), Tommy Steele, Lonnie Donegan, Elvis Presley, etc. Can even throw in a Vera Lynn, or two. The BBC radio police should have a fine old time trying to locate our position when we are underway on the green button at 25 knots.

Tmac, can you spare Squeek to be our DJ?

How exciting, our own pirate radio station and dear Squeek as DJ. Great idea Tom. Shall we arrange for a dance seeing as we are going to have such wonderful music?

Great idea - I will go through my vinyl collection as there are definitely some Kinks and Small Faces stuff in there.

Careful billyboy, I have been chatted about calling 'Squeek', Squeak. We don't want to upset Tmac, he has had a stressful enough time as it is. Besides, we really need Squeek as our DJ.
