The Evergiven has been and still is at anchor in the China sea. Since dropping off her containers in Europe she has not earned a dollar and therefore a dead loss to her owners. How much longer will this continue. ?

My gut feeling is that it will be a long time before that vessel earns anything.

A screenshot of the Qingdao/Korean/Japanese archipelago on AIS shows thousands of ships many of which are loading vital plastic nick-nacks for Europe. Ever Given you are missed.

The story on Splash24/7 states she should be back in service later this month, the bulbous bow looks fairly dented, but steelwork repairs are pretty quick, remains to be seen if there was any engine damage, the slow passage gives no indication, as the fore peak damage was likely the deciding factor in a limiting speed by class.

There's a wee bit of misalignment Chief, but it'll take up with the heat.

Expiloter- I am sure most would agree, but I am sure that there are a lot of people looking into this, all wearing Rose Tinted Glasses.
The company I worked for required a vessel to make the crossing in 9 hours (135'), with 3 hours in port. Meaning 15kts. Speed trials over measured mile =14.17kts Management discuss, after 1 hour, " well to the nearest quarter thats 14.25kts" out with the calculator-ohno not fast enough. After another hour of discussion, "well to the nearest half a knot, that 14.5kts-out with the calculator-ohno not fast enough. Another hours discussion "well to the nearest knot, that 15kts-out with the calculator-oh Yes thats ok . So chaps we can run a regular twice daily service, marvelous. All is good. Meanwhile in real life, after starting on a Monday night, the vessel was so late on Wednesday morning the sailing was dropped, restart Wednesday night, Saturday morning arriving about midday. no morning sailings on Sat, Sun, Monday. Reality has little to do with decision making, if you do not agree tyou are either negative or a trouble maker. |

Thats Boardroom politics for you.
What the Supers should have presented to the Board was a paper outlining the problem, discussing various solutions and recommending that everything possible should be done to speed up the turnaround. 2 to 2 1/2 hours should suffice. QED. |

Yesterday AIS stated the Evergiven was moored. today she is at anchor.

It looks as though she was pulled off the quay to let another container ship to get alongside. Ever Given is now back but moored outside the other ship.
Maybe there is a queue for the large dry dock, and she has just moved up a place….

According to Qingdao Beinai Shipbuilding site where she is being repaired ( mainly on the bulbous bow) she will be returned to her owners in about 3 weeks time.

A very detailed report of the Evergreen incident is given in the Bloomberg Business site. The bulbous bow was uplifted by 6 metres. Well worth the read.

Is the Bloomberg Business site accessable without a subscription? If so could you send the direct link please.

It was only a matter of time before Ahmed and his JCB was blamed. I hope he is fully Comprehensive.
Bit of heat and a Monday Hammer should set things to right. |

Whats keeping her in, its not like the Chinese to take so long. A motor way bridge near here took about a year to replace, the Chinese replaced a similar bridge in 49 hours.

Half of Asia will be trying to nail Writs to her mainmast.
Someone better have a big cheque book. Chip and Pin won't do. |
