How sad is this?

Am thinking of buying a Doxford crankcase door.
For what good reason she has asked.

A door as a souvenir is harmless enough. Unless, of course, it is to complete the 6 cylinder J-type you are planning as her Christmas present.

There used to be a single cylinder working Doxford at South Shields Martec college. I wonder what happened to that?

This is the NEME NEMStop control stand. LBs pre timing valves had levers for NEMStop, reversing, fuel rate, starting air and on some engines, the fuel pressure handwheel was replaced by a lever.

I have the layshaft and knackered first gear out of my Norton Commando gearbox sat on the fireplace.
It took Mrs rogd 6 years to notice!!

The 58JS3 from Beamish would allow me to look at it and be sure it wasn't just a very bad dream I had 40-odd years ago.

All crankcase doors are designed to leak oil, plenty of it. Are you sure the Axminister is up to it? Is the Little Lady prepared to wipe down every hour?

The LBD I sailed with had the NEMSTOP lever, fuel lever, fuel pressure lever (not wheel), but the air lever went either Ahead or Astern so no reversing lever.

Don't sell yourself short, many Leckies were as good as a Third taking turns as the Doxford Octopus. And most were better than me.

I was only given a turn at a Gotaverken. And only one shot, which I missed, before more deserving hands got a go. I did fractionally better at adjusting the pull rod nuts with the engine running (and the mob laughing from the sidelines) but again only once.

I must say that it looks as if my dancing lessons would have come in quite handy had I had a stab at starting a Doxford. I am sure that chap would have taken "Celebrity dance me strictly out of here" (OWTFIIC) hands down, well one hands down anyway.

They only gave you a go so that you would lift the safety valves. A nights drinking on Leckys tab was something to look forward to.

There must be a very good precedent for this kind of thing, in one of John Steinbeck's books someone has a collection of engine parts from very obscure engines. Possibly Cannery Row.

I still have a valve from my old Morris 8, the "burn" nearly reaches the stem, it looks like a half eaten mushroom,

Oh dear, does this mean that I am going to have to dig out the two pistons from my BMW Isetta?
It was a single cylinder engine but there two 'events'.
One is a piston with a cracked skirt and part of the con rod still attached.
The other is the, more normal, piston with a valve head embedded in the top.

I'm sure I have them somewhere, I cannot possibly have thrown them away - unless someone else did....

Didn't have that but a couple in our fleet had the triplex chain break. However, I wonder if crankshaft fractured in two places (City of Colombo) or No.4 main bearing journal being excentric and the back camshaft breaking(City of Newcastle) = one detuner falling off?
