Here is superb piece about the loss of the Henry James, and the astonishing navigation in an open boat by her Lewisman mate, McDonald.

What an astonishing story - Quite a feat of seamanship indeed, 1300 miles in an open boat with a small and undernourished crew.
I find it shocking that politics of the day could have interfered so much in the recognition of such a feat. All respect to the late Donald McDonald and his boats crew!
