DISCUSSION AND OUTLOOK ---------------------- At 800 PM PDT (0300 UTC), the center of Hurricane Olivia was located near latitude 16.7 North, longitude 120.1 West. Olivia is moving toward the west near 12 mph (19 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue through Wednesday. A motion toward the west-northwest is expected Wednesday night and Thursday. Maximum sustained winds have increased to near 125 mph (205 km/h) with higher gusts. Olivia is a category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson Hurricane Wind Scale. Some slow weakening is forecast to begin on Wednesday and should continue for the next few days. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 25 miles (35 km) from the center and tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 90 miles (150 km).
