Reefer Vessel in Distress

The Panamanian flagged reefer vessel 'Uruguay Reefer' (IMO 9017264) has been abandoned near the Falkland Islands following the serious flooding of No.2 hold - the result of a suspected ice strike. The vessel had been trying to seek refuge in Port Stanley, but hampered by adverse weather and the large influx of water the vessel (loaded with fish and krill) has been abandoned in a serious bow down condition with the crew being safely picked up by one of the two ships that were escorting her.

Dennis.

Vessel still afloat, albeit very low in water. Following protests from the Falkland authorities, she is now being towed away from the islands by the reefer 'Frio Las Palmas'.
