Looking for information
Hi everyone I am researching my late grandfathers service at sea.
I have had a lot of help on other forums but my attitude is ask the same question on as many as possible to fill in as many gaps as possible. I am planning on visiting the UK national records office in the next couple of months also. The information I am looking for is his life at sea prior to 1917 when I have him on the crew of HMFA Cedartree on a T124 agreement. Any information on a ship called Anglo Mexican circa 1924 Story concerning him being frozen in in Canada 1928 or 29(possibly St Lawrence sea way or one of the Great Lakes) whilst serving on the Gypsum Prince. I can recall seeing a cutting from a newspaper picture of him on the frozen deck of the ship unfortunatley it has been mislaid over a period of time. Grandfather was John D Tuttiett he was an engineer and was lost during WW2. (I have all those details. |

The Anglo-Mexican was a general cargo ship completed 12.2.1908 by Short Brothers Ltd, Sunderland, Yard No 342, for Nitrate Producers' S.S. Co. Ltd., (Lawther, Latta & Co., London). She was 4796 grt / 2993 nrt / 8150 dwt, 394' in Length, 52'4"Breadth, 27'10"Depth with a maximum Draft of 28'9". She had a single screw powered by a quadruple expansion steam engine producing 2,700 ihp giving her a speed of 11 knots. The engine was built by North Eastern Marine Engineering Co. Ltd. Her official number was 125666 and she was registered London. Sold in 1927 to S.A. di Navigazione 'La Serenissima' - Fratelli Accame, Genoa and renamed Respice Patriam. Renamed in 1928 as Monreale and sold again in 1929 to Navigazione Alta Italia S.A., Genoa keeping the same name. She was broken up in 1932 at Savona
Hope that helps, Alastair. |
