They believe arson.....and she was only likely have gone downstream to Graythorp to the Able Yard anyway,however, the people that have been trying to preserve and renovate the ship as a training unit/ museum still seem keen on doing it....lord knows what that would have cost even before she subsided into the Tees mud years ago.

It is looking as though it is going to be a joint venture between Middlesbrough Council and Able, as Erimus has indicated there has been a number of proposals to save the vessel but up till now nothing firm.
She will have a lot of Asbestos aboard which will be costly to remove and dispose of, in reality Able are the experts but at present are busy scrapping Oil Platforms which are floated in on a Barge then placed on to a special Jetty whereas scrapping this vessel will require a Drydock or a Beaching.

I personally believe that it was 'game over' as soon as she was flooded - but even before that she was surely on 'borrowed time'. The asbestos issue was always going to be an expensive stumbling block for any refurbishment.

BBC NE News last evening said Middlesbrough Council now agreed that scrapping must be started as a matter of some urgency...hurray.
