MV North Star

Can anyone help me with information on this ship?

MV North Star, I was told it was my great uncles ship..... but sadly the last relative who new more details died last christmas.

no date though, I'm not sure what type of ship it was, which line or anything beyond the note on the back.

Can anyone help? or point me in the right direction?

I think I can confirm that is indeed the George V entrance with one of the "Sun" tugs at the stern of the vessel. Hard to tell what the funnel colours are as the lower part of the funnel is hidden behind the bridge, and the picture is also in black & white. My first guess was Harrison's Black/white/red/white/black but the North Star doesn't seem to show on any of their ship lists. Also the hull is not the right colour for Harrison's -- they were usually, but, I believe, not always black.

Anyone else any bright ideas to help Stephen??

looking at a photo of my great uncle in uniform (grey trousers, dark double breasted blazer with two wavey lines and a circle between on the cuffs) errol flynn moustache, looking like a young higgins from Magnum PI - this uniform photo could be from the 1930's - if its related to the photo of the ship it could possibly be from the 1930's.

I don't know if it make any difference to the colours of the hull etc?

Side doors in the hull may indicate a reefer vessel, possibly Scandinavian ownership. She had a sister ship(?) Northern Lights, but so far unable to find the company.
ps. Funnel colours could be two white bands on a blue background.

Norwegian reefer NORTH STAR was built in 1948 by Götawerken, Göteborg, SWE (620) for Skibs A/S Samuel Bakke, Haugesund, Norway.
Gt 3.870, 4.750 tdw, IMO 5257139.
She was broken up at Santander 26.3.71 after fire-damaged on 2.10.70.

Just to slightly muddy the waters & the time scale would be out, but Chris. Haaland had a later North Star that was the ex Geestbay (1) built 1964, also operating on charter to Jamaica Banana Producers, although they only owned her for two years 1973-1975. Stephen, as you have the photo to go with the story your must be the one in question. I will however post a photo of the ex Geest vessel.

I think my relative had retired by '73. Thank you all for the help and education, I had been looking for a few days (which is how I found the forum) without any luck, but knowing what you are looking at help, and i know nothing about ships
