Cracks in Very Large Ore Carriers

Upper deck cracks have been found on the VLOC 'Stellar Queen' operated by Korean Polaris Shipping - operators of the 'Stellar Daisy' that sank in the South Atlantic on March 31, and the 'Stellar Daisy' that diverted to South Africa with a hull crack in April.

My first trip on the Har Addir opened my eyes to the problems of Deck cracks when we visited a vessel moored ahead of us in the Botlek, her name escapes me but she was less than a year old and had already been repaired with a riveted doubler over the crack around No5 Hold which ran from the Hatch Coaming, that was in 1968, it looks like the problem is still occurring.
