Kaohshiung Taiwan ship breakers yard

I was on Shell Tanker Hemitrochus for the last 5 and half months of her life before she crossed the bar in Kaohshiung Oct 1977. She was built in late 50s midships/aft accommodation and originally been San Emiliano2 owned by Eagle oil which Shell took over early 60s. That name was on several of the manuals in the radio room.. She had become even too rusty for Shell! Sad end for for lovely character ship.

I made the trip in 1967 taking RMS Rhodesia Castle to her resting place.
Broke my heart to leave such a beautiful ship in such a place.
Really spooky patrolling all that empty and powerless passenger accommodation.

Took the Gardenia B to Kaohsiung in the mid 80s.

Took two ships to scrapyards in Japan in 1961 and 1964,the sister ships Port Huon and Port Alma.
Agree there is something eerie about a dead ship with no men around, had to check accomodation

before leaving ship as one of the last off.Happy days though, and good old ships which had more than earned their keep.
