Old Family History

My great grandfather disappeared on the 9 of sept 1883 whilst aboard the screw steamer La Serena
The ship left Sunderland on the 3rd of sept laidened with coal, heading for Naples
My question is where would the position of the boat have been 6 days into the voyage?
My guess is in the Bay of Biscay somewhere.
He was Ex Royal Navy then coastguard so was no novice to being onboard.
Thanks

Welcome to the site, please note the ship was registered in Sunderland but sailed from Tyne Dock in South Shields.
