Seeking abbreviation definition, please
Hello my learned ship enthusiasts,
A simple question which seems to have a complex answer: What is the official definition of the following abbreviations, please? HMAT HMT HMAHS HMHS HT Supporting evidence welcome! Thanks Mike |

HMAT.......His Majesty’s Australian Transport HMT.........His Majesty’s Trawler HMAHS....His Majesty’ Australian Hospital Ship HT...........Harbour Tug As I said, possibly. KR |

In my Discharge book HT stands for 'Home Trade'

For a sparks HT would be High Tension. That's the stuff that lurks in the backs of radars and pops your eyeballs out on the springs if you touch the wrong thing.

My first ship was a trooper - in 1956. She was HMT Dunera. Her Majesty's Troopship. That's how she was termed - I recall.
