Wales is not a country, it is only a Principality. Senedd Cymru is a jumped-Up County Council.

Your usual jovial welcome I see, E-S.
As ones who rebelled as much against Lords Protecting as against Monarchs I find your suggestion that Welsh nationhood would only be qualified by having 5 star monarchyhood perplexing. Are you trying to force Ivor to share the national inferiority complex of the hostile Hibernian? Nowt wrong with the Welsh. When Pa said he would have been found, like Great Uncle Fred, dead in a ditch (having been 'concerned with drink') had be been married to Great Aunt Myfanwy it was not because she was Welsh it was because she was a bitch.

Quote:
"Wales is a country. The only confusion (which I doubt is the reason people are confused) is that Wales still operates under English Law. This is because when the Kingdom of England formed the UK with Scotland, legally Wales was certainly NOT a country. However this has recently changed. Wales is now certainly a country. Wales is one of the four countries that makes up the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Although Wales is a country, it is not a sovereign state and is therefore not a member of the UN. Wales is governed by a devolved government officially known as the Government of Wales. It is headed by the First Minister of Wales. The government of Wales only handles matters on devolved issues while the government of the UK that is headed by the prime minister handles more complex issues."

I've never been a political animal but I've always been proud of being one of the Viet Taff - (we were here before the Vikings, Angles,Saxons, Romans, Normans, etc.) ......I also love the UK and feel that we are all better off together.

I could be totally wrong, or significantly wrong or a little bit wrong but NO, I'm Technically WRONG.
Is being, "Technically WRONG" a euphemism for being Right? I believe it is. I'm not an expert but it is not totally excepted that the Angles settled in Wales but now with Brexit making Holyhead a wasteland perhaps it is time to extend an invitation to them. Now I am veering towards the plumbing barbarian's opinion. I refuse to recognise nationhood by virtue (or vice) of having an elected Chief Minister. A Prince by all means; a Margrave even, if one has a March; An Arch or Grand Duke, if one has the architecture or a pretty big Duchy to go with it; A Baron, if his domain is licensed. But a greasy-pole-climber, never.
Were that to be the standard practice then welcome to the Grand ChiefMinistery of West Burgerpong. Guess who has just been elected as Chief Minister?
