Trust this will amuse

Perhaps not for the most straight laced of us but this true story from one of the participants this afternoon.

An elderly married gentleman died peacefully in his chair waiting for lunch after a visit to his club (a rare pleasure since the outbreak of C19).

His sister-in-law had had a sealed letter he had written kept safely for a number of years. It was to be opened in the event of his death.

The letter requested her to advise of his death by telephone to a number in Amsterdam. The recipient of the call turned out to be a lady with whom he had had a long occasional relationship.

On confiding this to his secretary (who he had shared with her late husband, his brother) she thoughtless exclaimed "You only had one letter?".

What single man could possibly want more of a story to have told at his funeral? My family (and this is not) would probably have gone ahead anyway.

My wife, to enter pre school at the American College (Mexico City, the oldest in the world) had to speak fluent English.

Her teacher was American, and she had married a Mexican and came to live in Mexico.

Anyway, Mr. Calderon died in "the act" on top of a young American tourist in a hotel in the city centre. Apparently, the young "lady" had quite a struggle to get out from under Mr. Calderon and, being American, did the right thing and called the Authorities.

The funeral mass was a fraught affair - Not only was the young "lady" there who had remained crushed under Mr. Calderon's corpse, but Mrs. Calderon, the "second family" (casa chica) and the "third family" (la casa mas chiquita)! It thus turned out that Mr, Calderon was quite a lad, but well regarded by his many womenfolk!

Rgds.

I had a weekend in a fine hotel in Barcelona, the NH Calderon. Had I a lucky escape?

Who knows what secrets lurk beneath a veneer of respectability, only to be discovered on someone's demise?

An old acquaintance told a small gathering at our local classic car club, of a relative of his who had recently left this World. He was comfortably wealthy, had sold his business, was involved in local affairs and a few clubs and societies. He had survived his late wife by several years. When the family gathered and began the process of disposing and distributing the assets of his estate, they made an interesting discovery. The late gentleman, held in high esteem by family, friends, ex - colleagues and business associates, as well as his local church, had built an impressive collection of , shall we say, "interesting literature and devices of an adult nature" all hidden in a walk in closet. Enough apparently to stock a small retail outlet usually found in the seedier area of any town, anywhere.
