Welcome ex Bank Line - what an experience!

Welcome all ex Bank Line - we are a shrinking band!

I had the privilege of sailing with Andrew Weir's Bank Line for 10 years from 1951 to 1961 at a time when the ships were still being replaced and sorted out from the war. Liberty's were still in the fleet. and the ' white ships' were going great.

Please see my books called " Any Budding Sailors" and " Merchant Navy Apprentice 1951-1955" which give my light hearted account of deepsea and beyond. They are on Amazon or can be googled. There is also a blog called bankline.wordpress.com which has loads of pictures.

A potted fleet history of the Bank Line 1885-1985 has just been published in the May Sea Breezes and summarises all the ships from sail through steam and on to the large orders for motorships before the eventual decline. Nice pic of the Southbank at Apia, below 3 years before she was wrecked at Washington Island in the Line Islands
