I had dealings with Aros Line who ran into Kings Ferry Wharf at Burton Stather on the River Trent, near Scunthorpe. Their agents were BOS Shipping who owned adjacent land. Their man cargoes (80,000 tonnes a year) were timber from Sweden, and Forest products such as wood pulp and paper,Portuguese timber and steel from Germany. The wharf closed many years ago (1991) and is a haulage yard now.
Aros were owned by Sten Siöwall AB of Västerås in Sweden geoff |

I was Export / Agency Manager at Aros / Siowalls in Lowestoft for 15 years from 1987. Regular callers I recall were Lady Bos and her sister Figaros, Sparos and her sister Lubeca (renamed Faros), Trabant, Cosmea, Corvette (renamed Arosia).
Hope that is helpful in jogging a few memories. |

@Peter, Thank you very much, i have photos on my account of all these vessels! Unfortunately looking for years for information(any) of this Line but in vain. Nothing concrete, a few bits here and there, not a Book, not trading areas, curious what happened and bankrupted, liquified or something like this. I believe the Line was very healthy but for unknown reasons disappeared.
Once again thanks! Cheers from Athens, Greece.

Hello,
I saw that you were interested in Aros Line. My father worked for many years at Sten Siöwall AB, which owned the line. The head office was in Västerås, Sweden. Aros means "where the stream flows out". The old name of Västerås is "Västra (western) Aros". As a child, you were always welcome at the company and everyone was really friendly. Today I am friends with a couple of my father's former colleagues who I sat on his lap with as a child. I myself traveled with the ship Arosette from Västerås to Lowestoft in England in 1991. The captain of the boat was called Wahan Haretun, not sure of the spelling. He was from Iraq and married to a Swede. From Lowestoft I went on by train to Winterton and my summer job at Burton Shipping which was wholly or partly owned by Sten Siöwall Ltd. On the way home from England, I went with Figaros if I remember correctly. May have been Sparos too. Anyway. I found your interest in Aros Line when I googled "Lady Bos". I go through old photographs, thousands, from Siöwall's time and there appeared over 100 pictures of Lady Bos from, among other things, its construction period, keel stretching to trial speed. Also found pictures of the ship Aros maiden voyage from 1971 and more pictures of other ships and facilities such as Lowestoft and others. In 1980, Siöwalls served 16 ports with 29 sailings and 12 ships. Västerås/Västervik/Oskarshamn - Grangemouth Köping/Oskarshamn - Seaham Västerås - Burton Västerås/Norrköping - Goole Oskarshamn/Kalmar - Burton Köping/Oskarshamn - Shoreham Köping/Södertälje - Bremen/Delfzijl Västerås/Köping - Antwerp/Ghent Västerås/Oskarshamn – Fecamp There was also a smaller inland boat that was used for customer meetings and representation. It was called Arosklein. There were quite a few agents (shipbrokers and forwarders) for Aros Line. In Greece it was S & C Besi, 6 Sotiros ST in Piraeus. If you have more questions, write your questions down and I will try to answer them. Best regards Edward |
