Good Cook/Bad Cook

Did anyone come across one of these outside the galley on a ship they served on ?. As you know they have them on the windows of cafe's and restaurants. I never came across one aboard a ship. Don't think the Cook would have been amused if one appeared outside his galley.

Most of the chefs I served with did absolute wonders with the meagre allowances given to them to feed us, and other than one particular chef on a Minesweeper (he was actually the assistant chef...or the 'Cooks mate' and probably the laziest man on earth!) the standards of cleanliness in the galley (and the food that came out of them) were outstanding, I think unanimously they would have drawn the line at the idea of a cleanliness rating posted on the galley door though!

I would be most annoyed to find this stuck outside my Galley Door.
Don't mess with the cooks or you will regret it!
Weekly inspections of Galleys, stores and messrooms by the captain kept the Catering department in line.
AS for flags of Convenience ships, I don't know!!!

It's important to say that you have a unique situation but problems are the same because we are people - live organisms. And all methods must be a little individual. I can write a few words about mine. All about it, you can find in the article https://plushberrystrain.com/vital-p...hberry-strain/. And if you have questions feel free to ask.

Had some excellent meals, as an agent, aboard some Liberian and Panamanian ships of 'the old school'.....I do remember a certain Glasgow based owner who protested when the daily meal allowance was raised to 3s 4d per man day, but the food was usually decent and the galley clean.

I have seen some old flat iron colliers loading in Sunderland, that had the galley (coal stove) between midship and aft around 50s and 60s.
